A main hall, a private lounge and the bar, can accommodate 50 people with all the space air-conditioned .With a decoration that evokes the traditional Madrid cafés we offer a unique cozy corner for your working-dinner for any quiet meal or celebration, and all this just a few meters from the Plaza Mayor in the heart of Old Madrid.
Enjoy our heated terrace seating up to 30 people and overlooking the Plaza Mayor. Equipped with heating in winter and cooling by water mist in the warmer months, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the morning, one midday snack or your lunch or dinner watching the Palacio de Santa Cruz, Plaza Mayor, iconic landmarks with 400 years of history.
Our restaurant is located in the historic surroundings of the Plaza Mayor in an old building in whose basements or “caves” we built a beautiful natural cellar where we keep our wines in ideal conditions of humidity and temperature. Built in brick sits under the arcades of public transit, can be accessed by all our customers that request to us.
The center of the city, the Madrid of “Los Austrias”… who has not ever tour stopping at the many bars and tavernas to try their specialty or a cold beer or a vermouth. In Salón de Tapas you can do it in our white marble bar similar to the ancient breweries of old Madrid, while testing one of our specialties, half portions or, of course, the breaded squids sandwich which we presume to be the unique area made of real and authentic squids
The traditional tapas in Madrid updated and renovated to meet the tastes and expectations of our customers: salads, hot and cold creams, cakes, risottos, boiled tripes “callos”. Delicious ready made rices, selected meat recipes like veal cheeks in cider or game meat stews. Our breaded shrimps “Plaza Mayor” and, of course, the breaded squids that we buy fresh and clean and cut using all parts: body and legs.
In addition to our Menu periodically renewed seasonly, we offer a daily menu with several alternatives to 10.75 €. For special events our Tasting Menu allows you to try several dishes of our home cooking for 25€ VAT included.
Head Chef kitchen direction
The head chef is Cristina Aparicio (Madrid, 1982) who began his career 10 years ago as a kitchen assistant at Restaurant Amparo in Madrid under the command of Chef Nazario Cano and after that in Restaurant La Sirena in Elda, Alicante, where he learned to cook the fantastic rices that today prepare in our restaurant.
He has supplemented his training in the kitchens of various restaurants in Girona and Madrid as the Occidental Miguel Angel Hotel, the J Batela” or As de Bastos” restaurants, until in 2009 he joined as head chef of our Salón de Tapas.
His passion and interest in baking and extensive training in this field of restoration make it a specialist in preparing homemade desserts such as pies, puddings, custard or rice pudding caramelized, one of the specialties of the house with most successful among our customers.
